Trainee Instructors
At the beginning of 2017 we were invited by the Abernethy Trust to start a year long filming project gathering footage during their 12-month trainee instructor course hosted at their School of Adventure Leadership at Ardgour on the West Coast of Scotland. Having worked with the Trainee instructors (TIs) previously over the years on various other film content for the other centres we had a little bit of insight into the course, a pre-requisite for many young people wanting to become fully fledged outdoor instructors.
It’s hard to imagine exactly what it feels like for these students packing their bags and heading off to this remote part of Scotland for a year but we felt very privileged to share in some of this experience with them. Below is a still from an aerial shot just near the centre at Ardgour with a small group of Trainee Instructors out on the hills.
Along with the training itself the instructors gained a series of outdoor qualifications, completing tests through the year in paddling, climbing, mountain biking and orienteering and their Level 1 Ski instructor qualification out in Switzerland. During the course of the filming, we joined the instructors for a week in Villars, Switzerland.
