“A surprise to myself and a great complement to our last film.”
Victoria Crowe, OBE

Having worked with Victoria Crowe a couple of times before we were very excited to be commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to produce a short film about her work in portraiture, ahead of an exhibition entitled ‘Beyond Likeness’ at the Queen Street gallery in Edinburgh.

The film was intended to introduce new audiences to Victoria’s work and provides a glimpse into her artistic processes and influences.

A shorter cut which proved very popular was made for the gallery to use on their social media channels to promote the exhibition.

To kick off the project we met with Victoria and her husband, in a small square in Venice, a city where they live for part of the year and one which has had a strong influence in her work, including many of the portraits in the exhibition.

Our Creative Director, Simon Ray then interviewed Victoria at her newly established Edinburgh studio and this became central to the film we produced. Using Duncan Macmillan’s brilliant book entitled ‘Victoria Crowe’ as a reference, it was fascinating to hear first-hand about Victoria’s journey into portraiture and how she approaches each of these very unique paintings, including a recent commission of Prince Charles which now hangs in the Great Hall of the National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh.
